Bella 2009 Zinfandel, Lily Hill Estate Vyd., Dry Creek Valley
Lily Hill Estate vineyard is located on the western slope of the Dry Creek Valley, directly above the Bella wine cave. Lily Hillís 10 acres of old-vine Zinfandel were planted in 1915. These weathered vines give ultra-ripe, concentrated fruit that brings intense flavor and complexity. Of course Dry Creek Valley is considered the Mecca for red Zinfandel. The grapes were hand-sorted and destemmed. Each lot was fermented in closed-top tanks for 15-20 days, and the maceration was conducted with a submerged-cap tank system to allow for maximum extraction of color, flavor and tannin. 12% Petite Sirah is added to the blend. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. No scores for this 2009 but in other vintages it routinely receives 90+ ratings.
