Les Cadrans de Lassegue 2008 St. Emilion Grand Cru |
 |
Chateau Lassegue is the stunning St. Emilion property purchased by Jess Jackson who made it one of the region's top performers. With Winemaker Pierre Seillan (also of Verite), the Lassegue team turns out exceptional right bank Bordeaux every vintage. In 2008, for the first time they created a second wine to Lassegue and Les Cadrans is it. The same terrior, the same grapes (60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon),the same winemaking and slightly shorter oak aging, just 8 months in 20% new French barrels. It's St. Emilion Grand Cru in an elegant, forward style from one of the best. Ripe black currant, smoky, spicy notes and distinct minerality on a supple framework. Robert Parker said "Elegant, spicy, gamy notes jump from the glass of this medium dark ruby/purple-tinged effort. Pain grille, black currant, cherry and crushed rock characteristics along with prominent minerality are also found in this mid-weight, slightly tannic 2008. An excellent effort, it should drink well for 10-15 years." We say it's got value and style written all over it.
