Pahlmeyer, Jayson 2009 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
When Robert Parker says "Things just seem to get better and better at Pahlmeyer, a long-standing, brilliant, remarkably consistent source for one of Napa's finest Merlots, Chardonnays, and Pinot Noirs." wine drinkers take notice. And Pahlmeyer's latest addition, Pinot Noir is a wine they can't seem to get enough of. He and his skilled winemaker , Erin Green created the Jayson line to help fill the demand. The grapes are all sourced from prime vineyards in the Sonoma Coast, mostly from his own Wayfarer Farm. The grapes are hand sorted and de-stemmed before being placed in small open-top fermenters. Only native wild yeasts are used which insures the purity and integrity of the resulting flavors. After 2-3 weeks the wine is gently pressed and moved into French oak barrels (67% new) where it ages for 12 months. A barrel selection is then done to determine which will be Jayson wines and bottling is done with no fining or filtration so the intensity and richness of the fruit truly shines through. This is a dense, fruit-infused wine with mouthfilling richness and a long finish. The Wine Spectator scored it 92 points saying "Pure, ripe, juicy and well-structured, with firm plum, spice, herb and wild berry notes joined by a minerally and pebbly edge that's cleansing. Best from 2012 through 2020." Very Limited!
