When Duckhorn Vineyards wanted to do Pinot Noir they went north where the cool climate Anderson Valley in Medocino showed real promise for growing complex richly textured Pinot Noir. Now, with five estate vineyards in the Valley, their Goldeneye Pinot Noir is a true success story. For this Anderson Valley bottling grapes are sourced from each of the single vineyards. To further enhance the
depth and complexity, winemaker Zach Rasmuson selects only a small percentage of the finest fruit
before applying small-lot, artisanal winemaking techniques. The wine was aged in 70% new French oak Burgundy-style barrels from the Allier, Vosges and Tronçais forests for 18 months. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 91 points saying. "This shows the classically dry structure of Goldeneye, with firm tannins and tart acidity, as well as a fine core of cherry, cola, red currant and oak flavors. Not quite as intense as Goldeneye’s ageable vineyard bottlings, but not too far off. Drink now."
