Wild Rock 2009 Pinot Noir, Cupid's Arrow, Central Otago |
 |
New Zealand’s Central Otago is the World’s most Southerly wine growing region. It’s also the place that Pinot Noir guru Matt Kramer called "the next gold mine". That's because the cool climate in this region turns out Pinot Noir with bold character and intense flavors. And Pinot's from this region are in most cases, fairly pricy. That's what makes Wild Rock Cupid's Arrow so special. A joint venture between Craggy Range winery and Master of Wine Steve Smith, this Central Otago Pinot shows distinct character AND the price is right. Grapes are sourced from sustainable hillside vineyards in Central Otago's Cromwell Basin and Gibbston Valley. Hand harvested and fermented in small, open-top fermenters with indigenous yeasts. It's aged on fine lees in oak before bottling. It shows cherry, strawberry and cranberry aromas. It's bright and succulent on the palate with ripe berry flavors as well as hints of smoke and earth that all linger on a long juicy finish. A super value!
