Chappellet Vineyards in the Pritchard Hill region of Napa Valley is legendary for it's outstanding Cab-based wines. With their new Cervantes label they've branched out to produce wines from other outstanding AVA's. This Pinot Noir is just such a wine. Grapes have been sourced from the very exclusive Dutton Ranch, Sun Chase and Gap's Crown vineyards in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The wine was made at Chappellets estate in Pritchrd Hill overseen by their team led by Phillip Corallo-Titus. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, 1/3 new and the new oak plays beautifully off of the deeply concentrated Pinot Noir fruit. It shows wild berry notes, black cherry, hints of vanilla, spice and wood smoke on the nose. On the palate the fruit is intense, balanced by smokey, spicy oak. Hints of black cherry and toasted nuts linger on the finish. A superb Pinot from a class act winery. Grab it while it's On Sale!
Aromas of violet, spice, cassis burst from each glass of this lush Pinot. Affirms why Sonoma Coast has been such a standout region for Pinot. And at this price it's a crazy value! (though it was $40+!)
If you like your Pinots light and without character, stay away from this wine. This is made in that Belle Glos style with big cherry and berry candied fruit are layered over black pepper, red licorice and vanilla. The tannins are firm but the acidity adds a lift on the palate. A Pinot for those that like them big and bold.
