Point Concepcion 2012 Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County
Peter Cargasacchi is a long-time vineyard owner, grower and winemaker in California's Central Coast. He grows grapes in his Cargasacchi Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA and another vineyard in Santa Barbara County. The Cargasacchi name shows up on many different cult bottlings including Siduri, Brewer-Clifton and Bonaccorsi among others. For this wine he sourced grapes from the nearby Dierberg vineyard that lies at an altitude of 400 feet above sea level in the Santa Maria Valley. The grapes benefit fully from the cooling ocean breezes as well as the outstanding 2012 vintage conditions. The wine was whole berry fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in 1, 2 and 3 year old French oak barrels. It shows black cherry, plum, strawberry and sassafras on the nose. It's mouthfilling and ripe on the palate with a very polished tannic backbone and bright mouthwatering acidity. The flavors are lush; black cherry, black plums, cinnamon spice, cola and black tea. The finish is long and satisfying. Less 700 cases were produced of this handcrafted Pinot. Get it while it's On Sale!

This Pinot is a staff favorite that we've been raving about since it came in. Pure fruit and a luscious mouthfeel show why Santa Barbara is a hot spot for Pinot Noir. And the price is totally unheard-of for the region!

Comments about Point Concepcion 2012 Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County:

This is no pushover Pinot. An approachable nose of red and black cherry, plum and peppery spice lead to a palate with similar flavors along with smoke, nutmeg and earthy notes. It has some great depth and body for a Pinot, yet the acidity remains lively throughout. My kind of Pinot for sure...
