Te Kairanga 2009 Pinot Noir, Martinborough, NZ
Item Number: 17 80 169 09
Martinborough is a small wine producing region in New Zealand, accounting for only about one per cent of total production, but wines from Martinborough have a big reputation for quality, particularly Pinot Noir. The vineyards are naturally low yielding with stony well-drained soils and the cool climate is ideal. Te Kairanga was one of the first wineries in this fairly new region, started just over 20 tears ago on property that once belonged to the region's founder, John Martin. This 2009 is from estate vineyards hand harvested. Wine & Spirits Magazine scored it 91 points saying "Savory scents of rose petal jam, cherry bark and pepper fill this elegant Pinot Noir, Martinborough through and through. The cherry-skin tannins are light but firm, the rose fragrance lasting. This is a lively, Pacific Island Pinot to serve with dark-meat game birds."
