Gnarly Head 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi
Item Number: 25 20 121 12
Old Zinfandel vines with thick, twisted gnarled trunks and vines shooting up and out in all directions are the inspiration for Gnarly Head Zin. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Lodi, primarily the Mokelumne River area, with some the oldest Zinfandel vines in all of California. 35 to 80 year old vines are hand-harvested for this rich, dense, jammy Zin. The wine is aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, giving it a distinct spiciness to complement the pure fruit and making it an ideal match for zesty foods. This 2012 is a Wine Enthusiast Magazine Best Buy. They said "Soft, spicy and jammy, this is rich in clove and big-hearted blackberry fruit. Easy to like and pleasantly affordable, itíll pour well for parties and other occasions where a bold, crowd-pleasing red wine is in order." It also won a Silver Medal in the Critics Choice Wine Competition. They said "Smooth, berry, plum, cola flavors glide over the tongue and finish with mellow tannins." A great value for a quality Zin!
