Domaine Cabirau 2011 Maury Sec, Serge & Nicolas
Item Number: 39 10 287 11
This wine is from the South of France Rousillon region. The Domaine was started by Dan Kravitz whose Hand Picked Selections have been dazzling American consumers for years for their quality and value. He purchased his own vineyard in the Maury AOC which included 3.5 acres of 60 year old Greanche vines. The grapes from those vines are in this wine (60%) blended with 28% Syrah and 12% Carignan. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 90 points and the Wine Advocate scored it 93 points saying "Cabirau 2011 Maury Sec Serge & Nicolas ends up coming close to the typical encepagement of this estateís Cotes du Roussillon bottling. It also comes pretty close to the most unbelievable value I can recall from a region where red wine values are legion! The nose here is the epitome of schistic Maury in its smoky evocations of crushed stone, smoked meat, resinous herbs and black tea allied to sweetly-ripe, succulent profusion of cassis, black raspberry, and blueberry. There is a wonderful sense of polish here allied to underlying firmness as well as almost electric energy. Mouthwatering salinity adds to the irresistible appeal of a torrential finish rushing across a bed of stone, from which you pick yourself up eager to savor and explore the next sip. Donít miss a chance to follow this through at least 2020!"
