Pergolaia 2008 IGT Toscana, Caiarossa
Item Number: 29 30 333 08
Immersed in nature, Caiarossa, situated in the heart of the Val di Cecina, on the Tuscan coast, exists within its own area of unspoiled beauty. In 2004 Caiarossa was acquired by Eric Albada Jelgersma, a Dutch entrepreneur with a great passion for wine and also the owner of Château Giscours and Château du Tertre - two Grand Crus classé in Margaux, Bordeaux. The vineyards are set closely around the winery and move gently towards the sea. Most are south-west facing and the Tyrrhenian Sea with the silhouettes of the islands of Elba and Capraia on the horizon. When the wind is from the right direction, it brings in the perfume of the sea. This Pergolaia 2008 is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon . The wine aged in cask for 12 to 16 months. Wine Spectator called it a Smart Buy, scored it 92 points and said "Very alluring for its balsamic, wild herb, sour cherry and raspberry flavors, this is well-proportioned, offering a muscular structure to provide support. Shows fine length, with a wild berry aftertaste. Drink now through 2020."
