Ramos-Pinto 2011 Duas Quintas, Douro
Item Number: 39 80 110 11
Ramos-Pinto Ports are world famous for their incredible quality but since 1990 they have also produced outstanding dry wines like this Douro red. Grapes were sources from two different vineyards in the Douro Valley, hence the Duas Quintas name. The Quinta de Ervamoira is a valley vineyard that's sun-drenched and dry. The grapes are ripe and bold. Quinta de Bons Ares is a high altitude vineyard at 1800 feet where the cooling winds are strong and the temperatures are very moderate. Here the grapes ripen slowly, taking on nuance. All hand harvested the blend is Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. 25% of the wine was aged in French oak casks, 25% in large oak barrels and the remaining aged in stainless steel vats for 14 months. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 90 points and Wine Spectator scored it 91 saying "A muscular, full-bodied red that features a balanced mix of red currant, dried berry and savory herb flavors. Shows plenty of flinty and mineral notes as well, leading to a lithe, juicy finish that offers ferrous accents and hints of white pepper. Drink now through 2018."
