Burgess 2010 Merlot, Triere Estate Vineyard, Napa Valley
Item Number: 15 20 383 10
When Tom Burgess purchased the 1870’s era winery in 1972 he established himself as a pioneer of mountain side wineries. At the time, there were only about two dozen wineries in operation in the whole of Napa Valley. Burgess produces wines out of three distinct vineyard sites including this one, Triere vineyard. Located in Yountville in the Oak Knoll District, Triere has produced produces award-winning Merlot almost from the outset. The cooler micro-climate of Oak Knoll is ideal for the earlier ripening Merlot grape and in the Triere Vineyard the vines are planted with a north-south orientation so that they receive both morning and afternoon sun. This 2010, 100% Merlot, was aged 19 months in 20% new French oak. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 90 points saying "This elegant wine is dry, balanced in alcohol and classically proportioned. Full-bodied flavors of blackberries, currants and plums lead to a spicy finish. Rich and complex, it shows heightened structure, courtesy perhaps of its Yountville origin. Drink now–2016."
