Hilary Goldschmidt 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Charming Creek, Oakville, Napa Valley
Item Number: 13 20 412 12
Named for Nick Goldschmidt's youngest daughter and this Cab has an amazing pedigree. Planted in 1980 Charming Creek vineyard, in the heart of Oakville used to be sourced for the iconic and stratospheric Napa/Bordeaux collaboration wine (you know the One). Of course Robert Mondavi's vineyards are next door as are Nickel & Nickel vineyards. This is about as prime a location as it gets in Napa Valley. Good draining, gravelly Oakville soils lead to low yields and bold, expressive flavors. Leave it to Nick Goldschmidt to track down Cab of this quality. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine aged 20 months in 100% French oak barrels. It shows aromas of blackberry and black cherry. On the palate cherry, black currant, and blackberry flavors, all elegantly framed in smoky oak and fine tannins. Nuances of spice and leather linger on the finish. A seriously good wine, but the price is entirely unheard of for a single vineyard Cab from Oakville. Don't miss it!
