Nederburg 2012 Pinotage Winemaster's Reserve, Western Cape
Item Number: 30 70 123 12
Nederburg is South Africa's most decorated winery. They've won more awards and medals for their wines than any other Cape producer. Clearly they know a thing or two about the unique terroir of this region and what better wine to express it than the signature grape, Pinotage. This Winemaster's Reserve is sourced from mature vineyards averaging 20 years of age around the Western Cape where the maritime influence balances the warm climate. After a slow, two week fermentation, the wine aged 12 months in oak barrels. And it seems the winemakers at Nederburg have the magic touch because this wine just received Chairman's Trophy and a score of 95 points from the Ultimate Wine Challenge. They said "Deep dark ruby red color. The nose is wonderfully complex with scents of ripe black cherry, plum and dried black fruits mingling with black pepper, smoky berries, and loads of brown baking spices. The palate confirms the nose and then some, delivering a multilayered fruit driven attack with ideally integrated spice, earth and oak notes." An amazing value!!
