Carlton Cellars founder Dave Grooters learned the Oregon Pinot Noir ropes working for Oregon Pinot Icon Ken Wright. He went on to purchase prime vineyard land adjacent to Kenís estate on one side and Tony Soterís on the other. Someday this area in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA will have to be designated Oregon Grand Cru. This wine is his most accessible, named for a landmark area of the Oregon coast, grapes for this 2012 are sourced from his estate vineyard and from several select vineyards nearby in the Willamette Valley. The wine is aged ten months in premium French oak. It once again won a Best of the Best Double Gold Medal in the Oregon Wine Awards Competition, faced off against all of its peers. And of course it best dozens of wine costing $10, $20, even $30 more per bottle. An outstanding vintage for Oregon Pinot, this wine shows delectable, juicy Pinot fruit with layers of strawberry and black cherry and plums dusted with exotic brown spice notes of cinnamon and nutmeg all lifted by vibrant acidity. The Wine Advocate just reviewed it favorably saying "The 2012 Pinot Noir Seven Devils sees no new oak during its ten-month maturation. It has a well-defined and fresh bouquet with scents of raspberry and wild strawberry, a touch of woodland developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a light touch of Asian spice on the entry, supple texture that allows the finish to glide and slip down the throat. For this price, this Pinot comes heartily recommended." A first rate value!

Excellent Vintage for the Seven Devils
This is always a solid bottle of Pinot, but this vintage was particularly tasty. The fruit seems a bit more ripe and forward, however it maintains balance and elegance from start to finish. With the slightly tannic finish and great acid backbone this one will also benefit from a few years of aging.
