Chianti Classico Riserva 2011 Castello di Monsanto
Item Number: 29 30 285 11
When owner Fabrizio Bianchi purchased this ancient estate 1962 he began a transformation that continues to this day. The vineyards have all been revitalized and the winemaking is modern and up-to-date. He was one of the first to eliminate white grapes from his Chianti blend. The blend is 90% Sangiovese, 7% Canaiolo and 3% Colorino. Instead of large Slavonian casks the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barriques. A wine that has shown up on prestigious Best of the Year lists is past vintages this 2011 scored 90 plus from several reviewers including 92 points and a "Smart Buy" designation from the Wine Spectator who said "Aromas and flavors of eucalyptus, wild sage and pine mingle with cherry, tobacco and earth notes in this complex, structured red. Balanced, long and built for the long haul. Drink now through 2024."
