B Side 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Item Number: 13 20 370 12
Don Sebastiani has a Napa Valley pedigree a mile long. But in his long career he has proven that Napa Valley wines, a. donít have to be expensive and b. donít have to be predictable. The idea of a ďB sideĒ is that itís not the smash hit that you bought the record for but sometimes it delivers just as much in a less conventional way. This is exactly what B Side Cab is all about. It tells the story of the flip-side of Napa Valley. The eastern side of Napa Valley includes areas such as Pope Valley, Chiles Valley, Wooden Valley. Vines in these areas are grown in thin volcanic soils, which yield small, concentrated fruit. Combine these ďoff the beaten trackĒ grapes with some from Oak Knoll, Calistoga and Yountville and you can make a killer Cab for a value price that really delivers. This 2012 is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. It was aged in 80% new French oak barrels for 14 months. The wine shows aromas of blackberry, sweet tobacco leaf and notes of caramel. Itís complex and subtle with black currant, black cherry, toasted almond and dark chocolate notes. Supple and balanced itís a wine that drinks beautifully today and will also reward cellaring. It won Gold Medals in both the San Diego and Riverside International Wine Competitions. A Super value.
