Atlas Peak Vineyards 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Item Number: 13 20 163 12
Atlas Peak’s Napa Valley blend is sourced from multiple sites throughout the valley obtaining rich ripe fruit from up-valley near Calistoga, structure and length from the famous ‘Rutherford dust’, deep concentration from the famed Atlas Peak vineyard atop Atlas Peak Mountain, and elegance and refinement from Spring and Howell mountains. 2012 was a spectacular year for Napa Valley grapes. A mild spring, a warm summer and continued warm weather throughout harvest all made for an earlier than expected ripening. Atlas Peak had all of their mountain fruit in by October 11 which was about two weeks ahead of a typical year. 91 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and a drop of Malbec, aged 17 months in 33% new French & American Oak. The sheer concentration of this Cabernet is inviting. The aromatics draw you in with notes of blueberry, blackberry, cassis, sage, bay leaf, chocolate. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate yet balanced with equal measures of dark fruit, dried herbs and spice. This wine shows beautiful balance with tannins that are supple and subtle brown spice lingering on the persistent finish. This wine is always a seriously good value but in a vintage like this it’s almost impossible to beat for the price.
