Gerard Bertrand 2011 Tautavel, Grand Terroir, Cotes du Rousillon Villages
Item Number: 39 10 146 11
The dynamic Gerard Bertrand is owner of more than five estates in Southern France. He was named European Winery of the year in 2012 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. In the Cotes du Rousillon village of Tautavel he has almost 800 acres of estate vineyards, owning about 90% of the entire appellation. The soils are rocky limestone chalk and clay and the vines are very low yielding. Warm climate varietals as in the Rhone valley, offer great expression here. This "Grand Terroir" is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Carignan. The wine is aged 10 months in oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 91 points saying "This is an immediately attractive and approachable wine, with direct and intense aromas and flavors of black cherry, plum and boysenberry accented by notes of sweet smoke, mocha and pepper. Firm yet approachable, this is well-balanced with structured tannins and ample acidity. Drink from 2015-2018."
