Ch. Hourtin-Ducasse 2010 Haut Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

Item Number: 13 10 150 10

Customer Rating Based on a scale of 1 to 5 glasses

This Cru Bourgeois is a blend of 56 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 31 % Merlot, 11 % Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot from vines averaging 15 to 20 years of age. 2010 was of course a fantastic vintage in the Medoc and all of Bordeaux, thanks to a dry and very sunny August, and September, the grapes obtained a maturity that could only be described as perfect. Renowned oenologist Marc Quertinier who has worked with or advised almost every top Bordeaux estate does the honors here. The Ch‚teau is located in Saint-Sauveur, a prime district bordering Pauillac. It has been producing wine with the bourgeois cru classification since 1932. Two of the chateauís previous owners from the 18th and 19th centuries, Mr. Hourtin and Mr. Ducasse, gave it its name. Its current owners, the Marengo family, acquired the chateau in 1976 and have modernized the winery and upgraded the vineyards. This 2010 is a "Cellar Selection" in Wine Enthusiast Magazine who scored it 92 points saying "This is an impressive, concentrated wine that gives pride of place to the ripe berry flavors and the balancing acidity. Underneath, the tannins are built up, showing that the wine will age. With its weight and depth, this needs to be aged the tannins to fully soften."

Stunning Haut-Medoc and Crazy Value!
What a tremendous of balance of new world, concentrated fruit with old world terroir, minerality and earthy undertones that are unmistakably Haut-Medoc. The red berry and black cherry aromas are intense and forward leading to a balanced palate of bright acidity, dense fruit and firm, chalky tannins. A pretty big wine now, this one will certainly age and improve over the next several years.
