Sapphire Hill 2012 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley
Item Number: 17 20 323 12
Sapphire Hill Vineyards and Winery was established in 1989 and has gained a reputation for producing award winning Chardonnays, Pinot's and Zinfandels. Their focus is on varietals from small unique vineyards concentrated in the Healdsburg appellations of Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Alexander Valleys. Most of the wines they make are tiny production; as little as 24 to 48 cases. And the wines invariably end up on posh restaurant wine lists, almost never becoming available retail. We were very lucky to get our hands on a small quantity of their 2012 Pinot Noir. Total production was less than 400 cases and the grapes are sourced from prime vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley. All grapes are harvested by hand and then hand sorted twice before fermentation. The grapes are fermented in specially designed tanks to achieve the best flavor profile and then aged in French oak barrels for 19 months. Each barrel is tasted monthly and carefully assessed for the final blend. This wine shows a very elegant and refined palate. Aromas of strawberry, vanilla and earth lead to silky, round flavors. Strawberry, forest floor, woodsmoke and hints of brown spices intermingle and linger on the finish. A classy wine. Grab it while itís On SALE!!
