Estancia 2013 Pinot Noir, Stonewall Vyd., Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey
The fruit for this Pinot Noir is sourced entirely from Estancia’s Stonewall Estate Vineyard, located in the renowned Santa Lucia Highlands AVA in Monterey County. This AVA has become well known for being one of the best places to grow Pinot Noir in all of California. Vineyards like the Pisoni, Gary’s, Las Alturas and Sleepy Hollow have solidified this well-earned reputation. Stonewall Vineyard lies right next to Sleepy Hollow (between the North and South blocks of that vineyard in fact). In this east-facing vineyard, with elevations between 400 and 800 feet, the Dijon and Pommard clones thrive in the soil of decomposed granite. This wine shows intense and vibrant aromas of zesty wild berries, spices and hints of vanilla. On the palate there’s bright fruit, delicious cherry, fresh strawberries along with spicy nuances smooth but lively tannins. It finishes long and lingering. It was awarded a gold medal in the Sunset International Wine Competion. Single vineyard Pinot’s from this area can carry hefty price tags upwards of $50 to $100. That’s what makes this wine such an incredible find. Prime single vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir aged in 30% new French oak for 14 months and less than $30 a bottle!! Don't miss it!
