This wine gets its name from the original Earthquake Zin which came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco's great Earthquake of 1906. And Winemaker Michael Phillips thought the name seemed to fit this Cab as well since it's also from old vine Lodi fruit, it possess over the top concentration, bold, earth shaking flavors and it's from the record breaking 2013 vintage. They add a touch of Petite Sirah to the Cabernet Sauvignon and they age the wine in oak barrels for 15 months. Robert Parker scored it 90 points saying "This is another winner from Michael David Winery" and it's a Wine Enthusiast Magazine Editors' Choice with a 90 point score. They said "Flavors are deep and rich in this bold, full-bodied and mouthfilling wine. It smells like molasses, Bing cherries and black plums, tastes as if saturated with blackcurrants and cherries and has a layer of fine-grained tannin to add texture."
