So much so that the different clones of Sangiovese that each area developed were given distinct names, some with the regional monicker attached. So, like Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, from the illustrious Maremma area, is Sangiovese through and through. It's a DOCG wine with all of the breeding and quailty assurances that designation demands. This Morellino from Greta delle Fate shows black cherry, spicy cured tobacco and licorice notes. Its nicely balanced with ripe tannins and appealing acidity. A great match for pasta, cheeses and meats and it's ON SALE so grab it now.
