Rosenblum 2007 Zinfandel, Rockpile Road Vyd, Dry Creek Valley |
 |
The Rockpile AVA was just granted in 2002 making it one of the newest in California and the main reason the AVA was established is because of the Rockpile Road Vineyard. Planted in the mid-1990’s with old clone Zinfandel budwood from the 120 year old St. Peter’s Church vineyard, the Rockpile Road Vineyard sits 1,200 feet above Lake Sonoma in the upper Dry Creek Valley. The high altitude of this mountain vineyard allows cooler temperatures as well as direct sunlight unhindered by the valley fog below. The grapes ripen slowly developing robust flavors. The wine is aged 14 months is 60% American and 40% French oak. It shows flavors of blackberry, cherry, campfire smoke, licorice and minerals. It’s ripe and luscious on the palate. The Connoisseurs Guide scored it 92 points and The Wine Spectator scored it 90 points saying "Ripe and lush, this is loaded with zesty, lingering flavors of licorice that follow aromas of black raspberry, pepper and toasty sage. Drink now through 2014." ON SALE!!
