About Our Ratings

Gloria Ferrer 2007 Pinot Noir Estate, Carneros
Gloria Ferrer is a winery know primary for excellent sparkling wine from grapes grown in their Carneros estate vineyards. Of course those grapes are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and now with many acres of mature vines these varietals have really started to shine as is very evident in this 2007 Estate Pinot. This wine is produced entirely form the free run juice after a three day cold soak and slow fermentation of the individual vineyard lots. Aged for nine months in French oak (33% new), Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this Pinot 94 points saying "The first of Gloria’s 2007 Pinots to be released, and a promising allure to their future block bottlings. The wine is, in a word, superb. It has ripe raspberry, cherry and blackberry fruit, but also a wonderful earthiness of mushrooms, and the tannin-acid balance is near perfect. A gorgeous young wine to decant and enjoy now."

Compares favorably with Willamette Valley pinots including Vantage Point, one of our favorites in this price range.

Yes. My wife does not like big bold reds and has become a Pinot Noir lover. She is very discriminating and this one really won her over.

Sam this wine is smooth and lite on the palate. I do not care for a dry wine with strong tannin either. This one should please. :)

Do you think this wine is really outstanding? Is it a "must buy"? How would you compare it to some of the other wonderful Pinots in the area?

We are very impressed with this wine and for the price, yes we'd have to say a "must buy".

      • Q:

Mr. Farrell did not mention whether this wine could be laid down for any period of time or whether it should be drunk now.Because it was free run juice without the addition of tannins from press juice, it would seem that it cannot be stored for long. is this correct?

          A:

Even though it is made from thr free run there is still a tannic structure to this wine taht will allow it to age. I would expect it to develop if stored properly over the next 1-3 years.
