Artesa's architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999. This Pinot Noir is sourced from prime vineyards in Carneros where the cool breezes off the San Pablo Bay allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly and fully. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this Reserve 91 points saying "Three-plus years in the bottle have been kind to this Pinot, letting the parts meld together. The oak is knitting with the cherry, raspberry and cola fruit, resulting in a creamy-sweet mouthfeel. Very nice, and should hold over the next 4–6 years. "
