Trinchero 2008 Meritage Red Blend, Napa Valley |
 |
The grapes for Trinchero’s Napa Valley wines are sourced from their over 200 acres of estate vineyards in prime Napa Valley appellations, including St. Helena, Mount Veeder, Rutherford and Atlas Peak. This Meritage blend is made up of 72% Cabernet, 15% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged 15 months in 70% new French Oak. Mario Monticelli is the young winemaker, producing all of the Trinchero Napa Valley wines. Having grown up the son of a winemaker it was a natural progression for him. And his experience working for Philippe Melka, producing super elite Napa Cabs from the best vineyards throughout the valley made him the ideal candidate for Trinchero. Since coming on board with production of the 2007 vintage he has received an array of 90+ scores that rivals the best. This 2008, his second Meritage scored 92 points in the Wine Spectator who said "Rich and savory, well-focused and nicely proportioned, with savory herb, ripe dark berry, black licorice, cedar, espresso and tobacco flavors. Full-bodied, ending with a graceful mix of tiered flavors and texture. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2021."
