Tenuta Polvaro in the Veneto is an estate that dates back to the 1600's. The De Zan family, makers of the Candoni wines, now owns it and they produce wines that are traditional in character but modern in style. This wine is a red blend of new and old grapes; 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 13% Syrah and 8% Refosco. The grapes are vinified separately and aged in oak. It shows a unique character of ripe berries and spice. The Beverage Testing Institute scored 92 points saying "Aromas of spicy poached plum, chocolate cherry, and poultry seasoning with a supple, dryish medium body and a tangy apple, pomegranate, spice and earth accented finish with chewy tannins. A very good table wine with bright acidity."
This is quite a unique blend with lots of subtle intricacies. The bouquet offers ripe red fruit, cherry, chocolate and spice. Its medium bodied with a nice balance of acidity and tannins giving it a lovely texture. It finishes clean with mostly the fruit and hints of dark chocolate hanging around. Drinking very well as a young wine.
