Irpinia DOC Aglianico 2008 Donnachiara |
 |
Here is another impressive wine from Donnachiara. The vineyard where the grapes are sourced for this wine has been in the family for five generations. 100% Aglianico, the vines average 30 years of age. The location is drenched in sunlight while the high altitude tempers the climate and extends the growing season, allowing the grapes to develop ideal balance and complexity. Aging is in French oak barriques for 6 months with a mix of new and second use barrels. The wine shows remarkable elegance for a big, robust wine with well managed tannins and expressive fruit. Wine Spectator scored this 2008 90 points saying
"Smells of the mountain, featuring aromas of pine, wildflower and stone that give way to ripe wild berry notes and firm tannins. Structured, with a minerally aftertaste. Drink now through 2016."
