About Our Ratings

Hartford Court 2009 Zinfandel, Jolene's Vyd., Russian River Valley
Jolene’s Vineyard takes its name from a merging of the first names of the owners of Maffei Vineyards, Joanne and Arlene. This ancient vineyard joined the Hartford Zinfandel portfolio beginning in 2004, as a single vineyard offering and as an important component of our Russian River Valley Zinfandel blend. It is rare for such an old, Russian River Valley Zinfandel vineyard to be planted almost exclusively to Zinfandel selections. Most old vine Zinfandel vineyards in the area are ‘field’ or ‘spice’ blends that include mostly Zinfandel with very small amounts of Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouchet and red Rhone varietals such as Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. This wine was aged 11 months in 45% new French oak barrels. Robert Parker scored it 94 points saying “The 2009 Zinfandel Jolene’s Vineyard was bottled without fining or filtration. It exhibits a deeper ruby/purple color along with abundant notes of loamy soil, boysenberries, black cherries and a garrigue-like character that is reminiscent of a southern France Rhone Valley wine. The perfumed style is in keeping with the personality of this charming, fruit-forward, fragrant vintage. Drink this medium to full-bodied, juicy, impeccably pure Zinfandel over the next 7-8 years."
