Sassicaia is the original Maremma Super Tuscan. It has spurred many followers but few rivals. Every vintage this iconic wine garners lavish praise and big scores. For example the last three vintages rated 97, 95 and 96 from the Wine Advocate alone, not to mention all of the other publications that praised it. 2009 was yet another remarkable vintage in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany which Sassicaia single-handedly placed on the map. Of course masterful winemaking by Consulting enologist Graziana Grassini who follows directly in the footsteps of creator Giacomo Tachis, makes this extraordinary blend of Bordeaux varietals what it is. James Suckling scored it 98 points saying " "This is fantastic. Intense and super long on the palate. It's insanely complex yet subtle with so much going on, with a beautiful balance and tension. It is full and powerful with a big juicy character that goes on for minutes. Muscular yet covered with pretty fruit. Elegance with force. Hard not to drink. But better in 2016."
