Treana 2009 Red Blend, Paso Robles |
 |
1996 was the first release of Treana. The Hope Family created this winery to produce this special blend of Rhone and California varietals. Since its inception it has been a major success, displaying the richness and character of these grapes and how well the flavors meld together. This latest release is all from their vineyards in Paso Robles and blends 70% Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Syrah. The varietals were aged separately in French oak barrels half of which were new for 9 months. After the blend was made the wine aged an additional 5 months in oak and is bottled unfiltered. The bold intensity is what you expect but what's unexpected is the supple, mouth-filling ripeness of this 2009. 90+ scores came from both James Suckling and Steve Tanzer who said "Deep ruby. Intense aromas of cherry-cola, woodsmoke and dried flowers, accented by peppery spice. Juicy and focused, with very good clarity to its bitter cherry and blackcurrant flavors. Shows impressive vivacity on the finish, which clings with serious spicy tenacity." On Sale!
