Sterling may have changed the label from the SVR to Platinum, but the quality level is still top notch! An exotic bouquet of black currant, red plum, cola, vanilla and milk chocolate gives way to similar flavors with a dose of ground espresso beans. Its rather soft and lush, yet not lacking in tannins finishing dry and long. Drinking big now but certainly has some agnig potential.

This wine was purchased for the special occasion of our anniversary. While pricy, the wait was worth it. The greater complexity over the usual wines we enjoy is obvious.I detect vanilla along with various fruits. Nice finish. This is special indeed.

I bought 6 bottles and shared one with friends. We all loved it (pairing it with typical appetizers) and wouldn't stop talking about it. I went home and purchased a case and urged my brother, my red wine connoisseur, into buying some (he bought 6). Last night we contrasted it to the Sterling SVR 2006, again pairing with general appetizers. The Sterling Platinum was strongly preferred, but felt that the SVR needed to be paired with steak and it would do better. An extremely enjoyable wine, especially for red wine drinkers.

Although the name has changed since the 2008 release (SVR RESERVE)....the quality remains. The new flagship of Sterling doesn't disappoint. Nicely balanced with a good nose of berry and jam. The wine opens beautifully as it expresses itself with hints of mocha and coffee. Nice tannin structure and a long finish. Well worth the price. Any fan of wine will appreciate this wonderful bottle.
