Joseph Phelps 2009 Pinot Noir, Freestone, Sonoma Coast
Napa Valley icon Joseph Phelps founded Freestone Vineyards in order to produce the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay he possibly could. In the cool Sonoma Coast appellation he found the ideal conditions for long slow grape development and rich intense flavors. In 2007 they completed their state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery, so this wine benefits from the delicate, minimal handling that this facility provides. Three estate vineyards are planted and all of the grapes for this 2009 are from the estate. This Pinot received rave reviews including 95 points from James Suckling who said "Intense purity of fruit with blackberries and dried lemon skin. Dark chocolate and coffee. Full body, with a juicy, chewy and ripe palate with green pepper and jalapeno. Lovely fruit too." Limited!
