Malbec Reserva 2011 Punto Final, Bodegas Renacer, Mendoza
The Bodegas Renacer is a new winery in Mendoza, Argentina, an ultra-modern facility was built in 2004. The wine is very new in how its made but the grapes come from vines that are very old. Two vineyards are sourced for this Reserva, each with 50 year old vines yielding barely 2 tons per acre. Grapes are subjected to a double triage and then fermented in stainless steel under the supervision of famed enologist Alberto Antonini. The wine is aged 10 months in French oak barrels and bottled without filtration. This 2011 scored 90 points in the Wine Spectator who said "This dark, polished red mixes crushed blackberry, cassis, plum skin, underbrush and olive hints on a full-bodied frame. The long finish ends with an aftertaste of mocha. Drink now through 2016."
