Vidal-Fleury has a long history dating back to the 1700's. It was one of the wineries visited by Thomas Jefferson on his trip to France in 1787. Today they are considered one of the most consistent producers in the Rhone Valley. The Guigal family took over several years ago and have completely modernized the operation while still following traditional methods. A slow maceration is done for the the grapes in this Cotes du Rhone red. The blend is 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 5% Carignan and others. In this vintage in the Southern Rhone, that Robert Parker rates 97 points overall, he said about this wine "Far better, the dark ruby/purple, medium-bodied, attractive 2010 Cotes du Rhone reveals lots of black currant and raspberry fruit intermixed with hints of pepper, spice and earth.
