Lapostolle 2010 Canto de Apalta Red Blend, Rapel Valley
Canto (song) is a red blend from Lapostolle, named for the songs of the many birds that nest in the Apalta Vineyard. A very Chilean styled blend it has 36% Carmenere, 31% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah. The wine is aged 16 months in French oak barrels. The Wine Spectator scored it 90 points and Wine Enthusiast magazine made it an Editor's Choice with a 91 point score saying "This is a new wine from Lapostolle, bearing a nose that’s intense and compact, with mineral and dark fruit aromas. It feels rich and muscular but not heavy, with berry, licorice, buttery oak and vanilla flavors. The finish is minty and chocolaty tasting. Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah make up the blend."

    Comments about Lapostolle 2010 Canto de Apalta Red Blend, Rapel Valley:

    If you have always wanted to try the infamous Clos Apalta from Lapostolle but didn't want to pay the lofty price tag for it, then this Canto is for you! Carries much of the same black fruit character with smoky tobacco and leathery notes on the nose and palate. It may not be as big of a wine, but it's not off by much. Really a steal under $20.
