Alta Luna 2010 Phases, Red Blend, Vignetti delle Dolomiti
A very unique wine, Phases is a blend of grapes native to the vineyards in the Alpine foothills of Northeastern Italy. Teroldego (40%), distantly related to Syrah is spicy and deep. Lagrein (30%) makes wine that's plummy, earthy and dark but with lively acid. Best-known, Merlot (30%) is from the slightly warmer zone where it takes on rich berry flavors. The three varietals are vinified separately and then blended. The blend is then aged 12 months in French oak barrels. The Wine Spectator said about this 2010 "A crowd-pleasing version, with round tannins, lightly tangy acidity and dark, brambly flavors of boysenberry, blackberry puree, aromatic underbrush and tarry smoke." A super value!

Comments about Alta Luna 2010 Phases, Red Blend, Vignetti delle Dolomiti:

Wonderful wine for the money. A great balanced blend that I would put against wines costing $30-$40. Paired perfectly with a homemade thin crust pizza and I am taking more to local Italian BYOB this weekend.
