Particularly in the case of this Deadbolt Winemakers Blend, because the Winemaker really knows his stuff. Philip Laffer is a legendary winemaker from Australia, leading such iconic brands as Lindemans and Orlando's Jacob's Creek. At Jacob's Creek he made a science of putting ripe, solid, expressive, good-drinking wines into the bottle that could sell for a bargain price. Working with a lot of the same varietals he used in Australia, here in California with Deadbolt, he's doing it once again. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petit Sirah and Shiraz is so delectable, smooth and satisfying you'll wonder why you'd ever pay more for a great everyday red.
I found this red wine easy to drink due to its smoothness and no tannins. I went an bought more bottles. Good with everyday dinner. No feeling of bitterness that usually makes red vines less attractive to me (said by not a wine expert, just sharing my feelings). This red is not complicated at all, and quite enjoyable. I recommend it.
This DeadBolt Red ROCKS with jammy goodness and lots of dark berry fruit from front to back. Perfect for those late summer BBQs as the black fruit, dark spice and peppery notes lend themselves well to some saucy ribs or char grilled burgers. Gotta love it at this price!
I usually agree with Josh on his virtual tastings, and will buy on his reviews. However I'm wondering if someone switched the wine in the bottle prior to his review of Dead Bolt. I found the wine to be confusing with no defined taste or structure. The long finish was very displeasing as I couldn't wait to get the taste out of my mouth. Just goes to prove that CA can't produce a decent sub $20 bottle of wine.

First try at your wine, love the label and the price. Confused though, the wine fizzed for at least a minute when we opened it, didnt expect this, also lacked aroma wondering if this could be a faulty bottling?? Taste was flat, we were afraid it may be "spoiled?" Will await your answer, thank you,
