Silver Oak 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley
Library Hijack!! Because Silver Oak only produces Cabernet Sauvignon from California's two best Cabernet microclimates, their wines are consistently outstanding and complex, brimming with ripe cassis flavors, carefully seasoned with toasty new oak. This 2008 Alexander Valley bottling is full-bodied and ultra-ripe and may be one of their best ever. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 24 months in American oak barrels and then 15 months in the bottle to develop and soften. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 91 points and Wine & Spirits scored it 94 saying "Like a savory claret pumped up on performance-enhancing California climate, this is nuanced and relatively austere for all its bold, plummy fruit. The supple richness of tannins lends it textural finesse, the quality of Silver Oak that may be most responsible for its legend. The alcohol is finely integrated so as to be imperceptible. Still youthfully floral, this will age with grace."

SO Good!
The '08 vintage of Alexander Valley is about as good as it gets for Silver Oak, maybe even for California Cab. Big, rich and ripe it's perfect for drinking now with some seared ribeye, maybe a little earthy mushroom dish on the side. Whatever it is, I'm thinking the timing is right for Fall food with a wine like this!

Big, Lush and Supple AV Cab!
If you're a Silver Oak fan, you are gonna love this vintage! Intense nose filled with cassis, black cherry, vanilla and toasty oak...big! It has lots of the same on the palate with some milk chocolate and eucalyptus notes on the edges. It coats the palate yet maintains a hearty structure with the tannins really showing up on the finish. Drinking nicely now but will only improve with age.

Big and bold but smooth
Let it breathe a little, had some with a nice surf (grilled shrimp) and turf (filet) dinner. Nice big taste but not over-powering or in your face. Smooth finish. Nice nose, tobacco, dark cherry, a little chocolate and some oak. Glad I made the purchase.

What is the alchohol content? The higher the alchohol content the better the wine.Is that true? If yes why and if no why?Thankyou

BEST ANSWER: 13.9%. No, it's not true. In Europe and other cool climate wine growing regions achieving ripeness is very important. So, for those regions reaching a minimum alcohol content (because ripeness, sugar, translates to alcohol) is necessary. Beyond that minimum and certainly in California where ripeness is almost never a problem, alcohol should be balanced. Too much alcohol throws off the flavors and the overall expression of a wine.
