About Our Ratings

Arrowood 2008 Syrah, Saralee’s Vyd, Russian River Valley
Arrowood winery is located in the rolling hills of the Sonoma Valley. As an icon in the region, Arrowood showcases Sonoma County’s ability to produce highly acclaimed Rhône-style wines. Over the last decade, cool-climate Syrah from California has attracted a growing following of wine fans who appreciate the heady aromatics, voluptuous flavors, and age-ability of this Rhône variety. The 2008 vintage marks the 15th of Syrah from the famed Saralee’s Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.Saralee’s Vineyard is decidedly cool climate. It has 13 acres of Syrah with a variety of French and Australian clones. Arrowood has been producing Syrah from Saralee’s since 1994. For this wine 93% Syrah is co-fermented with a 7% Viognier to intensify the color and enhance the exotic, complex aromas of the wine. It was aged for 21 months in 40% new French oak barrels. The Wine Advocate scored it 91 points saying ‘Dick Arrowood was one of the early Rhone Rangers because of his work with Syrah, especially that from the Saralee’s Vineyard. The 2008 Syrah Saralee’s Vineyard (93% Syrah co-fermented with 7% Viognier, and aged 16 months in French oak) exhibits wonderful, exotic lychee nut-like notes intermixed with blackberries and flowers. Super-fruity with silky tannins, this is a hedonistic, classic Syrah to drink now and over the next 5-7 years.”
