Lelarge Pugeot Brut Tradition NV Champagne, Premier Cru
One of the most exciting categories of wine today are grower Champagnes. Just recently in the New York Times Eric Asimov wrote "The grower-producer Champagnes emphasized authenticity and purity." Longtime growers in Champagne, the Lelarge family’s 21 acres of vineyards in the village of Vrigny are classified Premier Cru. As of 2012 their vineyards are certified organic. Current owner Dominique Lelarge was selling grapes to large producers like, Moet and Roederer for many years but decided recently that the quality of his grapes was too good to keep selling them off and he became a grower-producer. This Brut NV Tradition is 65% Pinot Meunier, 20% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay, bottled in 2010, aged three years, and disgorged in 2012. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "The Lelarge family has been on the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims since the 18th century. The family’s non-vintage Champagne is soft, rounded and creamy. It has fresh citrus and tangy orange zest fruits that are tight, crisp and with a direct line of acidity. It’s totally ready to drink."
