This Pinot Grigio is from Gorska Brda in Slovenia- a wine zone which was part of Italy until WWII and borders one of Italy's best white wine regions. Made by cult-winemakers Edi and Aleks Simcic, considered by Steve Tanzer to be perhaps the best winemaker in Eastern Europe. His top wines sell for hundreds of Euros per bottle. Handselected from grapes grown within a few kilometers of his family estate on low yielding vines that offer as little as one bottle of wine per plant, the wine is fermented in temperature controlled tanks to maintain the freshness. Wine Enthusiast Magazine said "A straw yellow color, with pink tinges, this bright wine is zesty and juicy at the same time. It has a round body and full mouthfeel, with flavors of green apple, Bartlett pear and citrus blossoms. There’s bracing lime-juice acidity on the finish." This is a value whose price would double if it were made just two miles to the west. Grab it.
