Guarachi Family 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Broken Rock Vyd., Napa Valley
After a quarter century of tasting, judging and assisting in the production of wines for other wineries, Alex Guarachi finally realized a lifelong dream of producing his own wines with the inaugural bottling of Guarachi Family Wines. Grapes for this wine are sourced entirely from their Broken Rock Vineyard on the eastern ridge of Napa Valley at the foot of Atlas Peak. It has high drainage and low fertility soil and consistently produces wines of unusual intensity and concentration. The wines was created with the help of one of Alex's close friends, internationally-renowned winemaker, Paul Hobbs. 100% Cabernet aged 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 93 points and Robert Parker scored it 95 saying "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a stunning bottle of wine. Dense ruby/purple with terrific texture, a full-bodied mouthfeel, plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit, a nice chewiness, but not anything over-the-top or overripe, this is big, bold in-your-face style of Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 10-15 years."
