The Renieri estate is located in the southern part of Montalcino on high altitude slopes. Owner Marco Bacci puts a careful focus on his vineyards to produce the best possible fruit. His 70 acres of vines face southeast to southwest at around 1,200 above sea level. These high altitude vines are planted in unique, iron-rich "terra rossa" soil that's rare for this region. High density plantings are utilized to create extremely low yields of fruit that is deeply flavored. This Rosso Di Motnalcino is a super value junior Brunello, 100% Sangiovese a selection from the younger vines on the estate. It shows bright forward fruit making it very enjoyable right now but there's concentration and backbone that will allow it to age gracefully in the near term. The Wine Advocate said about this 2012 "The 2012 Rosso di Montalcino delivers all the qualities you should expect from a food-friendly Rosso. This is a plump and easy-drinking red that ups the ante thanks to bright cherry nuances, blackberry and spicy background notes. It's a restrained, but not understated wine with balanced acidity and tight texture. Drink: 2014-2018."
