Chateauneuf du Pape 2012 Cuvee Excellence, Domaine de L'Arnesque
Wine Express has offered this Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de L'Arnesque exclusively to our customers since the 2005 vintage. The Biscarrat family, owners of the Domaine, have been wine growers in the area for 6 generations. Their 12 acre Chateauneuf Du Pape vineyard is located on the southwestern hillside of the Mont Redon plateau. In 2012 for the first time they created this Cuvee Excellence using fruit from vines up to 100 years old. 100% Grenache aged in oak casks for 12 months. This wine is dense, ripe and vibrant with intense black plum fruit and exotic spice overtones. The 2012 vintage overall in the Southern Rhone rates as outstanding and this is an outstanding wine you won't want to miss this!!!

Josh was a little too vivid when recording his tasting video
A great wine at a fair price but not as much volume of flavor that Josh described certainly lacking in fruit to the nose

Decant this wine for at least 30 minutes. I found 1 hour and 15 minutes perfect!

I've never heard of a CNP consisting of 100% of one grape. Isn't a CNP typically and traditionally a blend? Also, typically CNP can cellar for a decade+, not simply several years as Josh mentioned in the tasting video. Am I correct? Otherwise.....it sounds delightful!

BEST ANSWER: Hi thanks for your question! While this Chateauneuf will mature for 3-5 years it will still drink well for 5-8 or possibly beyond that. There are thirteen permitted varietals in Chateauneuf and though Grenache is the most common you're right, blends are common too. But this one happens to be 100% Grenache and yes, 100% delightful!
