The Tenuta Sette Ponti has become famous for producing the opulent and rich Oreno Super Tuscan. But their very affordable Second wine is a perpetual over achiever! The fabulous Super Tuscan blend, Crognolo is About 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot from their hillside vineyards in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Yields are kept low with a green harvest in May and the grapes are carefully hand sorted in the winery for a 20 day slow maceration. Aging is in French Allier oak barrels for 10-14 months. Once again, James Suckling has scored this 95 points saying "Lots currants, blueberries, vanilla and floral character on the nose and palate. Full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Edgy contrast of acidity, ripe fruit and wood. Stylish, savory and delicious. A blend of sangiovese and merlot. One of the best values amongst Super Tuscan reds. Drink in 2016."
