Col Solare 2011 Red Blend, Red Mountain Estate, Columbia Valley
Col Solare is the partnership between
two influential wine producers who are recognized leaders in their respective regions: Tuscany's Marchesi Antinori and Washington State's Chateau Ste. Michelle. Col Solare, Italian for
"shining hill," realizes the partners' mission to unite two unique viticultural and winemaking cultures to produce an ultra-luxury, limited production Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine
Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak the Wine Advocate scored it 92 points saying "More approachable, yet still beautiful, the 2011 Col Solare checks in as a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Malbec. It exhibits classy ripe black currants, charred meats, licorice and toasty notes to go with a full-bodied, layered and seamless feel on the palate. Lacking the back-end level of concentration found in the 2010, it is nevertheless beautifully balance and seamless, with fine tannin showing on the finish. Give it a year or two and drink it through 2026."
